Favourites Musingu and St Joseph's Kitale to battle it out in boys' football semis

Favourites Musingu High School and St Joseph’s Kitale will face off in the boys' football semi-final as the National Secondary School Term Two Games enter the third day in Kisii on Wednesday.

In Tuesday’s final group games, Musingu beat Koderobara 1-0 to book a date with St Joseph’s Kitale. Kevin Manani scored the all-important goal for the Scorpions.

The game was briefly stopped due to chaos but it later resumed. St Joseph’s walloped Dr Aggrey 6-0 to finish second in their pool. Musingu coach Brendan Mwinamo said he expects a tough game from St Joseph’s Kitale.

“St Joseph’s is a good team but we are equally good. I have been at the nationals before and I’m prepared for the game. We have set our sights on the finals,” said Mwinamo.

Highway Secondary School will battle it out with Central’s Kirangari in the second semi-final at Kisii School.

Highway finished on top of the group after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Takaba Boys from Mandera. Kirangari and Machakos played to a 1-1 draw.

In girls’ football, defending champions Butere Girls will face Kombani in the first semi-final while Nyanza’s champions Nyakach will battle it out with Butere Girls in the other semi. 

Highway’s team manager Fred Abuga said: “Our focus is majorly to win the game against Kirangari. We want to prepare the boys for the game because it will not be easy.”

In boys’ volleyball, former champions Cheptil face Nyanza’s Nyabondo Boys while Namweya will battle it out with former champions Hospital Hill at Kisii School. In yesterday’s matches, Cheptil humbled Milalulu 3-0 to top the group while Namwela saw off Matiliku to finish second.

Hospital Hill laboured to beat Kiaguthi 3-1 to finish on top of the group while Nyabondo easily overcame County High by straight sets.

In the girls’ category, defending national champions Kesogon will be up against former champions Lugulu Girls. In the other semi-final, East Africa champions Kwanthanze will face Soweto Academy.

In 3x3 basketball, defending champions Onjiko Boys stormed the semi-finals after beating Sigalame 21-7.

St Joseph’s Kitale overcame Machakos Boys 21-10 while in the other quarter-final, Sawagongo upset Dagoretti High 21-15. Friends School Kamusinga shocked Laiser Hill 15-8.

In the girls’ category, Raila Education Centre beat Kaya Tiwi 11-7 in the first quarter final while Nasokol Girls drubbed Mbitini 21-9. Butere defeated Nyanza’s  Nyakach Girls 17-13 while St Joseph's Kitale saw off Ngiya Girls 13-11 in a closely contested match.
