Musingu High are ready to lock horns with Highway in the boys' football final of the National Secondary Schools Games in Kisii.

Musingu needed penalties to beat St Joseph’s Kitale 5-4 after tying 2-2 in regulation and extra time in an entertaining match played at Gusii Stadium.

In the other semi-final, Highway Secondary defeated Kirangari 2-0 at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho, with Mohammed Hassan and Humphrey Aroko grabbing a goal apiece for the winners. 

In the girls’ category, Nyakach will meet Butere in the final. Nyakach needed an extra-time winner from Junior Starlets' star Sheryl Amwok to beat St Joseph’s Girls Kitale 1-0.

 Butere Girls came from two goals down to beat Kombani 3-2 in the other semi-final. The game will be a repeat of the opening game, where Nyakach won 1-0.

St Joseph’s Girls, Kitale lifted their maiden 3x3 basketball title after a hard-fought 13-12 win over reigning 5x5 champions Butere Girls in a closely contested match.

In the semis, St Joseph’s narrowly edged Nasokol 14-13 in an entertaining semi-final while Butere beat Raila Education Center 14-6. Nasokol settled for the third place after a 10-6 win over Raila Education Centre.

In the boys’ category, St Joseph’s Kitale needed a last-minute basket to dethrone last year’s winners Onjiko School 16-14.

In the semis, St Joseph’s overcame Friends School Kamusinga 17-15 in the semis while Onjiko beat Nyanza region rivals Sawagongo 21-18. Kamusinga finished third after a 10-17 victory against Sawagongo.

Indomie Kenya kitted all the basketball 3x3 teams and gave the top three teams in each category gift hampers.

In girls’ volleyball, defending champions Kesogon Mixed will renew their rivalry with East Africa champions Kwanthanze. 

In the semis, Kesogon beat former champions Lugulu Girls 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-6) while Kwanthaze were made to sweat before beating Soweto 3-1 (25-14, 20-20, 25-14, 25-20).

Veteran Kwanthanze coach Justin Kigwari said: “I expect a good match against our rivals Kesogon on Thursday. It’s good we lost one set against Soweto. This will give the girls a challenge in the final.”

In the boys’ category, Cheptil will face rivals Namwela in the final. Cheptil beat Nyabondo High 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) while Namwela laboured to beat former champions Hospital Hill 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-9, 25-21).

In netball, defending champions Oyugi Ogango walloped Kinale 99-22 in a one-sided semifinal and will face Bumala in Thursday’s final. Bumala beat Andersen 38-24 in the other semi-final.

Bumala coach Jackson Uluma said they want to shock Oyugi Ogango.

“Heading into the finals, we are underdogs. However, we are not afraid of them. We met at the preliminaries and lost 46-36 so expect a thrilling game,” said Uluma.
