AFC Leopards first-choice goalkeeper Levis Opiyo has signed a one-year contract extension deal which will keep him at the den until the end of 2025.

Opiyo, who signed from Wazito in November 2021, made his Ingwe debut in a Kenyan Premier League match against Sofapaka the same year.

The former Gor Mahia, Tusker and City Stars goalkeeper featured in 25 matches, playing 2250 minutes and managed 15 clean sheets in the 2023/24 season.

Speaking on Radio Jambo Sports Wrap, Opiyo said he wants to follow in the footsteps of his brother, Peter, who led Ingwe to the domestic Cup in 2013.

“Mistakes happen in match situations, but how you bounce back is what matters. I believe in myself and will continue working hard for the club,” said Opiyo, referring to an incident that left fans wanting him out after a costly error against rivals Gor Mahia.

Ingwe lost goalkeeper, Maxwell Mulili, to Shabana at the end of last season, handing Opiyo and his understudies —  Humphrey Katasi and Abubakar Musha — the responsibility to keep off rival attackers.

Leopards have completed their build-up for the new campaign, ending their pre-season activities with a barren draw against Ugandan side Express FC in Kampala on August 16.

The new season starts on Saturday where Ingwe are scheduled to clash with league returnees Mathare United.

Meanwhile, Leopards will hold their gala this afternoon at Maa Hotel, Nairobi, to award last season's outstanding performers.
