Musingu revive hopes of clinching East Africa schools football title

Kenya’s national champions Highway got their campaign back on track after a 2-0 win over Benjamin Mkapa High School from Tanzania.

•In the girls’ football, St Joseph’s Kitale 2-0 edged Tanzania’s Tanzanite Girls 2-0.

•n girls’ basketball, Kenyan teams recorded mixed results. National champions Butere upset Buddo 61-42  while  St Noa Girls from Uganda beat Kaya Tiwi 62-46.

Musingu High School coach Brendan Mwinamo believes his team is on track after his side drubbed Kakungulu from Tanzania 4-0 in the ongoing FEast Africa Secondary School games in Mbale and Bukedea in Uganda.

Polestine Okoth and Valentine Isalambo scored for Musingu as they recorded their first regional championship win.

“We drew 2-2 in the opening game against Amus College. That was the toughest game in the pool. My focus now is on the next game. We are taking one game at a time and I believe we are still in the hunt for the trophy,” said Mwinamo.

Humphrey Aroko and Peter Mutua were on target for Highway in the game that was played at Amus College in Bukedea district.

St Joseph’s Kitale battled to a barren draw against Bukedea Comprehensive School in another match.

In the girls’ category, St Joseph’s Kitale 2-0 edged Tanzania’s Tanzanite Girls 2-0. Abigael Walubengo scored a brace for St Joseph’s. Kenya’s other representatives Butere Girls overcame Rines from Uganda 2-0, thanks to Valencia Angela and Yvonne Adhiambo’s strikes.

In girls’ handball, Moi Girls Kamusinga defeated Kawanda from Uganda 20-14 while Tanzania’s Kilombero saw off  Kenya's Murinduko 20-15 in another encounter played at Bukedea Primary School.

Kimilili from Kenya suffered a narrow 23-20 loss against Wampewo from Uganda in the boys' category.

Kenya's Saniak also found the going tough, losing 24-22 to Bombo Army from Uganda. Hospital Hill battled to a 24-24 draw against Mbogo Mixed from Tanzania

In boys’ volleyball, Bukedea Comprehensive  School humbled Kenya’s Hospital Hill 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-14) while defending champions Namwela saw off Tanzania’s Bugobwa 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22).

Kwanthanze Girls qualified for the semi-finals without losing a game after beating Kwantanze St Alloys 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-12). They had earlier defeated Seroma Christian School in straight sets of 25-11, 25-11, 25-16.
