Police FC will miss the services of injured David Owino and Brian Musa in their second leg of the CAF Confederations Cup against Ethiopian Coffee SC in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Sunday.

The law enforcers, led by coach Antony "Modo" Kimani, will also miss the services of Kenyan international Kenneth Muguna through suspension.

Musa limped off with a sprained ankle inside 15 minutes of the encounter; they ended nil nil and was replaced by Charles Ouma.

Meanwhile, Owino, who didn't feature in the tie, will be out for around four months, after undergoing knee surgery this morning at Nairobi Hospital.

Police team manager Mr Njagi said it was a big blow to miss the two players, but he is optimistic those called upon will equally do a good job.

"Owino is out for around four months after having a knee operation, while Musa has a swollen ankle and will be out for a month. But we are optimistic we can get a win in Addis and qualify for the next round," Njagi said.

Modo, who took over the team barely a week ago, must get the key to opening the Ethiopians disciplined defence having being put at bay for 90 minutes in front of home fans last Sunday.

"We have worked on our finishing in the final third, which was our main undoing. We created so many chances but couldn't find the target, being in a must win situation, we have to get goals by all means to qualify for the second round," Modo said.

Going by the team that played last weekend at Nyayo Stadium, Modo will likely go with the traditional 4-4-2 system to counter the tricky Ethiopians who showed a never die spirit at Nyayo, despite being run rugged by their hosts.

Kenyan international Patrick Matasi will likely take his place in the post, and will be shielded by a four man defense of captain Musa Mohammed, Toha Rashid, Aboud Omar and Baraka Badi.

South Sudan international Charles Ouma, who replaced injured Musa, will start in midfield alongside Marvin Nabwire, and Tyson Otieno.

Zakayo will take the right wing while Jafar Owiti operates on the opposite wing as Ugandan import Alfred Leku or Clinton Kinanga takes starts as point man.

Meanwhile, Ethiopian Coffee SC head coach Desta Negash who acknowledged Police FC's tactical prowess and disclosed that he would defend and attack on the same measure to ensure the Kenyan police get nothing from the land of Haille Sellasie.

"Our approach in the second leg will be 50-50. A mixture of both attacking and defending is needed in order to get the desired results and grave the second round ticket,” Negash said.

The Ethiopians celebrated after the final whistle as if they had won, knowing too well they will be backed by colourful troops of fans in their backyard in Addis.

The FKF Cup champions travel to Ethiopia on Friday, August 23, 2024, as they hope to make history by making the second round in their continental debut.

The aggregate winner of the tie that is balanced at 0-0, will battle Egyptian giants Zamalek SC who are the Confederations Cup defending Champions in the second round.
