As the adage goes “there are no rehearsals on the big stage,” Police Bullets head coach Beldine Odemba knows talk time is over and what remains is game plan execution against hosts Central Bank of Ethiopia in the Cecafa finals Thursday afternoon
With bragging rights, and the sole regional ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League at stake, Kenya's Ambassador to the AU and UNECA Ambassador George Morara Orina, MBS- has boosted the Kenyan beauty's morale ahead of the crucial mission.
Over the past two weeks, the Ambassador has rallied his support for the team, offering the squad a captivating Ethiopian cultural immersion and experiences ahead of the finals.
The diplomat hosted the girls to dinner, and constantly supported the girls for their imperious form as the curtain fell on the 14-day tournament.
"You have made our country very proud. As you head to this crucial tie, let your dreams shine with brilliance. May you fly the Kenyan flag high and bring the trophy back home," said the Ambassador.
Kenya Police Board of Trustees Vice Chair Carol Kiambi noted that the immense support from the Kenyan consulate has made their stay in Ethiopia seamless.
"As the Police Bullets family, we deeply appreciate your support. The team is ready but eager for the finals, thanks to the encouragement and the unique Ethiopian experience," said Carol.
However, head coach Odemba who overcame the highly rated Simba Queens 3-2 in the semifinals has to be cautious having lost to the hosts 2-1 in their group A clash.
“We have no new injuries and we must approach the match cautiously having conceded four goals in the last two games. We must look for early goals to cool our nerves,” added Odemba
She hopes her troops led by Captain Lydia Wanganda, Lucy Kwekwe, Diana Wacera and Becky Okwaro will rise to the occasion.
Waganda is confident that victory is within their grasp and hopes they leave a mark in Ethiopia, by emulating their brothers Police FC who eliminated Ethiopia Coffee in the men's CAF confederations preliminary first round with a 1-0 win.
"The morale is high in our camp, and we will leave nothing to chance during the finals," said Waganda.
Meanwhile, CBE will be eyeing revenge after falling to Vihiga Queens 2-1 in the 2021 finals at Kasarani Stadium
The Ethiopians have the 12th man advantage, in the stands, but police chairman Nyale Munga and Ambassador Morara will lead the Kenyan contingent in the stands to cheer the girls to the historic finals that kicks off at 2.00pm
