Women's Super League side Mathare United head coach Joseph Oyoo had a sigh of relief after this season's league kick-off was postponed by three weeks to October 5.

He said the duration will give him time to whip the players into readiness for the kick-off even as he bemoaned the departure of some of their key players.

Top are Melissa Akinyi (Kayole Starlets) and Happy Mutta (Bandari Queens).

Oyoo acknowledged the challenge of filling these gaps, now that they have a transfer ban.

"Losing two crucial players without being able to bring in replacements has left a void. We have to maximise the resources at hand and ensure our remaining players are up for the challenge," he said.

Jane Hato also left for Women's Premier League (KWPL) champions, Kenya Police Bullets while Janet Mumo joined Kibera Soccer, who have also tapped Anna Arusi and Yvonne Kavere from Zetech Sparks.

Meanwhile, Kenya Under-17 forward Velma Awuor has joined Super League side Madira Soccer Assassins, having played a pivotal role in the junior Starlets' qualification for the Under-17 World Cup.

Elsewhere, record KWPL champions Vihiga Queens have scheduled a series of friendly matches to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

Vihiga won the 2021 CAF Women's Champions League Cecafa region qualifiers and the national women's title in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023.

They will face the 2022/23 Tanzanian Women's League champions, JKT Queens, at Mumias Sports Complex this weekend.

JKT Queens from Tanzania arrived in Kenya on Thursday. Kampala Queens were set to play in the celebrations but pulled out due to unavoidable circumstances, prompting Kibera Soccer Women FC to step in.

The friendlies, originally scheduled for September 14, have been rescheduled as teams target enough recovery time ahead of the start of the women's leagues in 10 days.
