Tusker FC’s dynamic midfielder Joseph Mwangi is keen to become the top midfield maestro in the 2024/25 Kenya Premier League (KPL) season.

The brewers signed Mwangi from Nzoia Sugar in August last year after an incredible season with the Bungoma-based side, where he netted 14 goals and contributed seven assists.

“I aim to score as many goals as possible this season and get recognised as one of the best midfielders this season,” Mwangi stated.

Last season, Mwangi netted two goals for the brewers, one during their 3-1 win over City Stars and the other during their 4-0 triumph over Shabana.

Erick Kapaito was Tusker's top scorer, finding the back of the net 12 times—seven behind the league’s top scorer Benson Omalla.

Mwangi is quietly confident his vision, creativity and ability to control the tempo will set him apart this season.

“My key strengths include a sharp eye for goal and the ability to help maintain possession for my team. I stay calm and composed on the ball and I have a strong sense of reading the game and providing attacking solutions,” he added.

He also highlighted the importance the move to Kenya’s second most successful club has had on his career.

“Signing for Tusker was the most memorable moment for me. It marked the beginning of a significant dream and it stands as a pivotal moment in my career,” he noted.

However, individual accolades are secondary to his ultimate goal, leading Tusker to success this season.

“My top priority is the team’s performance and ensuring we win games. I plan to achieve this goal through dedication, hard work and focusing on the team’s success,” he noted.

Tusker finished second last season just short of glory, claiming second place on the log with 65 points, eight behind perennial champions Gor Mahia.

With head coach Robert Matano out after his successful six-year stint, new interim boss Charles Okere has already begun his reign with a 1-0 victory over Sofapaka in the season opener last month.

Next up for the Brewers is a tricky clash against Kariobangi Sharks on September 14, a team that got the better of them last time out with a 3-2 win, courtesy of a John Makwatta brace and Julius Masaba's strike.

Dennis Magio and Deogratius Ojok were the scorers for Tusker in that encounter.
