Kenya Police coach Anthony Kimani is confident his side can etch their names into football history with victory over Egyptian giants Zamalek in their CAF Confederation Cup clash on Saturday.

The law enforcers will take on the defending champions at 3 pm at Nyayo Stadium in the second preliminary round, aiming to make a bold statement on their continental debut.

Zamalek, seasoned campaigners with two titles under their belt, are the most successful African side of the 20th century and have 65 domestic trophies.

However, Kimani believes his men are capable of pulling off an upset.

"We have a chance to make history. Zamalek are a formidable side but that doesn't intimidate us. We're here to rewrite the script with a win," said Kimani.

He is banking on the experience of his players.

"We have players who’ve competed at the highest level. That experience in the team gives us an edge," he said.

Kimani is confident their preparations, which have intensified over the past two weeks, will come in handy.

"Training has gone well. We've had two weeks to focus on Zamalek and while they are a continental heavyweight, we are fully aware of our strengths," Kimani said.

"We expect positive results in the first leg at home. This is where we can take control."

Kimani called on Police supporters to pack Nyayo Stadium and create an electric atmosphere.

"The 12th man was fantastic in our first-round matches against Ethiopia's Coffee. We didn’t win at home but their support pushed us to victory in Addis Ababa. We need them more than ever on Saturday," he said.

Police booked a date with Zamalek after Rashid Toha's second-leg goal separated them with Ethiopia's Coffee at the Abebe Bikila Stadium following a goalless draw in Nairobi.

Meanwhile, defender Aboud Omar has urged his teammates to make the most of home advantage in the first leg.

"We have to capitalise on playing at home. We need to score as many goals as possible since playing in Egypt is always tough," said Omar.

He highlighted the importance of Police playing continental football.

"This is a great opportunity for Police FC to show we can compete at this level and we're ready to take on the best Africa has to offer," he said.
