Gor Mahia head coach Leonardo Neiva has admitted they have a minimal chance against Al Ahly in the  Champions League second preliminary round after falling 3-0 in the first leg at Nyayo Stadium.

Leonardo, whose charges face a mission impossible of beating the Red Devils 4-0 on Saturday, is banking on a miracle with all odds against them.

Gor intensified training at Mpesa Foundation, Thika with Leonardo set to field his best 11 in a bid to salvage some pride away in Cairo.

The Brazilian acknowledged that Ahly, who he had previously referred to as the "Real Madrid of Africa" was on a different level, but was quick to add: "In football, anything can happen."

"I was satisfied with my players' efforts but conceding two goals in two minutes was the difference. We can't afford such mistakes in Cairo," he noted.

He will be hoping to get his defensive pairing right, with Alhonce Omija likely to partner Sylvester Owino and Geoffrey Ochieng and Rooney Onyango starting on the left and right back respectively.

Leonardo also hopes the impressive Ghanian midfielder Enock Morrison, and Alpha Onyango will be at their best in midfield.

Defender Ramy Rabia pounced on goalkeeper Kevin Omondi's rebound to score in the 14th minute. Parcy Tau then pinched defender Kennedy Onyango's pocket to slam home the second in the 15th minute to silence the Green Army crowd at Nyayo stadium.

Leonardo pulled off captain Philemon Otieno for Paul Ochuoga while Alpha Onyango substituted Kennedy Onyango before halftime.

Alphonse Omija moved from midfield to centre back as Ochuoga completed the back.

Al Ahly controlled the game, forcing Leonardo to change his formation to 3-4-3  to increase numbers in midfield.

Tau completed his brace in the 75th minute after Geoffrey "Simiti" Ochieng, who had shut him down for the better part of the game, slipped while trying to block him.

Leonardo hopes  K'Ogalo will utilise their chances and also avoid mistakes at the rare if they beat their hosts.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly coach Marcel Koller commended Gor Mahia for proving their worth but believes the tie is not yet over.

"This tie is not over. Gor have shown they can play and we have 90 more minutes to go before we plan for the group stage,"  added the Swiss gaffer.

Ahly are chasing their third straight Champions League title while K'Ogalo are seeking only their fourth group stage appearance.

Unlike previously when teams that fell in the second leg knockout dropped to the Confederations Cup, K'Ogalo's sojourn will end in the preliminaries after Caf changed the rules.

The second leg takes place on Saturday 21, September 2024 at the Al Salam Stadium, Cairo.
