Barcelona could be without summer signing Dani Olmo for a period of time after the Spain international suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday.

Olmo put on an impressive performance and scored Barca’s third goal of a 4-1 win in Girona, but in the 60th minute he went over to the dugout and indicated that he felt a problem with his right hamstring.

Coach Hansi Flick preferred not to take any risks with the attacking midfielder, replacing him with Eric Garcia.

“We will have to wait and see,” said Flick when asked about Olmo’s problem.

“Fortunately, it doesn’t look to be too serious, but we will have to see what the club doctors say.”

Even if Olmo’s injury is slight, he looks unlikely to play in Barca’s Champions League opener against Monaco on Thursday and has to be considered doubtful for the difficult La Liga visit to Villarreal next Sunday.

Barcelona are still without Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen and Frenkie de Jong through injury, but Gavi has returned to full training after a knee operation 10 months ago and should be able to return to action in the coming weeks.
