Liverpool FC icon Jason McAteer arrived in Kenya on Friday to headline the tournament.

The former midfielder, who played for Liverpool from 1995 to 1999, will join more than 1,000 fans to cheer on 40 amateur teams from corporate entities, SME banking clients, Liverpool supporters, and media partners.

Among them is the Radio Africa Group team, set to compete in Group H by rekindling their rivalry against Nation Media Group, Kenya Airways B, CFAO Mobility, and Wananchi Group A.

“I’m delighted to be in Kenya for the first time,” McAteer said after landing at JKIA. “The SC Cup has taken me around the world over the past five years, and it has been amazing. I was really excited to visit Kenya, though I’m not sure we’ll have time for a safari,” McAteer said.

The champions will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium in May 2025 to watch a Premier League match between Liverpool and Arsenal.

The trip includes training at the Liverpool FC Academy, a tour of Anfield’s historic museum, and a visit to The Beatles Story exhibit.

“The winners will visit Liverpool and see the iconic Anfield,” McAteer said.

"They'll also get to play on the pitch, which is an amazing experience. It’s always a special day for the winners,” he added.

McAteer will also join Liverpool fans in Nairobi on Sunday to watch the Reds take on Manchester City. “It’s a big game, and I’m sure we’ll make lots of noise,” he said.

Starting his career at Bolton Wanderers, McAteer was instrumental in their promotion to Division One, catching Liverpool’s attention.

He joined the Reds in 1995 and later played for Blackburn Rovers, continuing his top-flight career. As a Liverpool ambassador, his visit underscores the club’s global connection with fans.
