After recovering from a shoulder injury, Kenneth Serem is ready to lead home players in the battle for the Manchester Salver title.

The event, which is part of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) Series, will take place this weekend at the par 71 Eldoret Golf Club.

The Eldoret show has attracted five ladies led by Kenya's top player Naomi Wafula of Vipingo Ridge, Faith Chemutai (Nandi Bears), Esther Chumo (Eldoret), Sarah Nyareri  (Karen), and Sylvia Tanui  (Eldoret).

Serem, who returned last weekend to play at the Nandi Bears after a long battle with the injury, said he has recovered fully and is ready to face Kenya’s top amateurs ahead of the Magical Kenya Open set for February next year.

He said he wants a top-four position, to improve on his sixth position last year.  “I am fully healed and ready to face off with other golfers in search of points. I have been out of play for long and I expect to give my best shot this weekend," said Serem.

He skipped Nandi Shield three weeks ago as he was in the final stages of his healing process.  The three-day 54-hole tournament will tee off on Friday and end on  Sunday and has attracted top amateurs led by series leader Michael Karanga.

Karanga, who broke the national record two weeks ago after winning the Karen Challenge, remains top ahead of John Lejirma and Ugandan Godfrey Nsubuga.

The Kiambu player has won 12 titles against Kopan Timbe’s 11 with 1213 points. Lejirma, the winner of the Nandi Shield, will be chasing his maiden Manchester Salver title.

Nsubuga, who was 10th at the just concluded Uganda Open will also be in action. However, a new champion will be crowned after defending champion Michale Alunga relocated to the USA.
