Muraguri rules Expo tourney as Ruiru marks centennial milestone

Ruiru Sports Club Vice Captain James Karanja Muraguri has expressed his delight after winning the Expo Golf Tournament.

Muraguri, who plays off handicap 18, carded 39 Stableford points to clinch the title at the Ruiru Golf Course over the weekend as the club celebrated 100 years of existence.

Muraguri said: ''My swing was there today. I had an incredible four-ball who were very competitive and demanding. I must say we enjoyed the course.''

''My first nine was amazing. Despite a few setbacks in the second nine, I managed to return 39 points. I intend to build on this win going forward even as we continue with the centenary celebrations."

In second place was handicap 7 golfer Eliakim Maina, who carded 36 Stableford points in a tournament that brought together 102 golfers from Nairobi and its environs.

Veronica Mwaura, playing off handicap 31, clinched the ladies' title with 36 Stableford points.

Esther Muoria, off handicap 18, was second with 32 Stableford points.

The first nine award in the men's category went to handicap 21 Joseph Wairagu, who carded 20 Stableford points to beat Danson Watunu on countback.

Doreen Kaluwas the guest winner award with an impressive score of 37 Stableford points.

The 18-hole course will host the second edition of the couples’ golf day on December 3 as the centenary celebrations continue.
