Royal Nairobi end five-year drought in Tannahill Shield

Royal Nairobi Golf Club amassed 39 points to end their five-year drought in the Tannahill Shield after winning this year’s edition at the par-72 golf course over the weekend.

The hosts shook off fierce competition, especially from the Western Combined Team, who clinched second place with 38 points.

Muthaiga secured the third position with 36 points while defending champions Sigona claimed the fourth spot with 33 points.  Kenya Railway and Vetlab Sports Club also made their mark, securing fifth and sixth positions, respectively.

Mombasa Golf Club team manager Eric Nyongesa was pleased with his team’s performance stating, “We're incredibly proud of our team's performance. While we didn't secure the top spot, we're already working hard to improve for next year.”

The Mombasa-based Club emerged as a standout contender, securing 28 points and placing seventh overall. The team displayed promising talent and determination throughout the tournament.  

Nyongesa further stated that this year’s edition was very competitive.

"This year's Tannahill Shield tournament saw some of the most intense competition we've witnessed in recent years,” he added. 

Looking ahead, Royal Nairobi captain Richard Owino promised grand celebrations for their upcoming centenary milestone.

"As we march towards our centenary milestone, we envision a global celebration. Discussions with JTL are underway, and we're poised to elevate the tournament to unprecedented heights," Owino had stated.
