Team Kenya captain John Lejirma extended his lead after reclaiming Goldfield title, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series, at the par 72 Kakamega club on Sunday afternoon.

Lejirma came to this third and final round buoyed by back-to-back victories.

He fired two under par 70, accumulating one over 217 in the three-day tournament.

Lejirma hit three over 75 on Friday and level par 70 on Saturday.

The victory puts the Kenya Railways player in good command at the top. He has 518.3 points, miles ahead of his challenger Elvis Muigua — who finished 24th on Sunday to accumulate 346.1 points.

It was Lejirma's fourth win after the Ruiru Open two weeks ago, adding to his Trans Nzoia Open in Kitale and Ronald Marshall and Toby Gibson in Njoro.

His excellent performance in the final round edged out round one and two leader, John Kamais from Nakuru.

On Sunday, Lejirma teed off to an albatross in the fourth par 5, first, ninth, 10th and 18th, dropping a shot in the second, third, seventh and 14 and pars in the remaining holes.

In the second round on Saturday, the former KAGC champion rolled in five birdies, four bogeys with a double and pars for level par 70.

On Friday, he started with three birdies, three bogeys, dropping one, two and 10 pars.

Lejirma said: “I was disqualified last year and I came back this year to prove a point,” said Lejirma.

He targets to reclaim the KAGC title he won in 2022 and is currently at the hands of Kiambu's Michael Karanga.

“I want to represent Kenya again at the Magical Kenya Open next year,” he said.

Second-placed Kamais fired five over par 221 ahead of Rwandese Felix Dusabe and Vet Lab’s Isaac Makokha.
