Quins' coach Paul Murunga has lauded his charges despite losing to Kabras 10-5 in the Prinsloo Sevens final on Sunday.

Murunga has asked his squad to rise up to the occasion in the Christie Sevens this weekend at their RFUEA home ground.

"To get our first final this season is good news for the team because some of the players are playing Sevens for the very first time. Going forward, we need to build on it and Christine Sevens being our home tournament, I am confident we can go all the way," Murunga noted.

The Ngong-Road outfit had started the tournament with a 26-26 draw against Blak Blad before edging Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology 26-12.

They then caused the biggest shock of the weekend, beating KCB 26-5 on Saturday to top Pool 'C' before edging Mwamba 19-0 in the quarters.  They then sent hosts Menengai Oilers out with a hard-fought 14-10 in the semifinals.

“The boys have rectified the mistakes which we saw in the first two legs in Kisumu and Mombasa and I believe we are headed in the right direction. We are not here just to make the numbers. We are competitive and we will be fighting for the titles in the next three tournaments,” he noted.

The former Kenya Sevens and Homeboyz tactician wants his charges to improve on their decision making which let them down in the final.

“We had good spells of possession but at times, we took the wrong option which came back to hunt against a quality Kabras outfit who took their opportunities," he said.

Quins skipper Paul 'Boi' Mutsami said they will take the same approach for the Christie tournament as they did in Nakuru.

“We will take it one match at a time. We do not want to get ahead of ourselves. It was painful losing in the final but we came out stronger and have learned the lessons which will benefit us in the long run.”

Elsewhere, following the win at the Prinsloo Sevens, Kabras hold a seven-point lead over rivals KCB at the halfway stage of the circuit.

Felix Ayange's charges have 63 points with KCB second with 56 points.

Defending champions Oilers and Quins are joint third on 46 points.

Strathmore Leos close out the top five on 44 points with Mwamba (39 points), Homeboyz (28), Nakuru (27), Nondescripts (23), and Kisumu (20) closing out the top ten.
