KCB Sevens coach  Andrew Amonde hailed the mentality shown by his charges as they clinched the Christie Sevens at the RFUEA grounds on Sunday.

The bankers had lost in the semifinal stage of the Driftwood and Prinsloo Sevens tournaments but bounced back to move within two points of leaders Kabras with two tournaments remaining.

Our journey to victory is a testament to our dedication, teamwork, and remarkable prowess on the field," said Amonde.

"Our tactical finesse, precision passes, and ability to maintain our consistency set us apart as a team that was not only well-prepared but also focused on a win. I am delighted that we have now gotten our groove back after faltering in the last two legs.”

The former Kenya Sevens skipper said there is more to come from his squad with the overall title at stake.

I believe the boys now know they can't drop the standards in intensity, commitment, and work rate going forward. We must play at high intensity at all times,” added Amonde.

The team will take one week break before resuming training next week for the Tisap Sevens in Eldoret and the Kabeberi Sevens next month.

“I will get the boys to enjoy a couple of days off before we come back to train for the final two tournaments. We expect the tournaments to be very tough and competitive even as we eye the national title," said Amonde.

In pulsating final against Strathmore Leos who they had thrashed 40-0 in the group stage, the Thika Road side had to dig deep and carve out a 17-12 victory.

Tries by skipper Vincent Onyala, Brian Wahinya and the tournament's Most Valuable Player Festus Shiasi won them the victory to tie with Kabras on two tournament wins each.

The varsity outfit replied through Gabriel Ayimba and Matoka Matoka scoring a try each. The bankers led 12-5 at the interval.

Kabras bagged the bronze medal by beating Nakuru 19-12.

The sugarmillers saw their 16-match unbeaten run ended in the semifinals by Strathmore in the semifinals when they lost 7-5.
