The race for the National Series hots up as the action heads to Eldoret for the Tisap Sevens on Saturday.

Following a three-week break,  action resumes at the Eldoret Sports Club and the battle looks like a three-horse race— featuring leaders Kabras (80 points), KCB (78 points), and Strathmore Leos, who have an outside chance of winning the title on 63 points.

A spanner has been thrown into the works with various teams expected to be without their star players who are with the Kenya Sevens training squad. The team is currently preparing for the Africa Cup Sevens-cum-Olympic qualifier in Zimbabwe in September.

Christie Sevens winners KCB will be without skipper Vincent Onyala, Samuel  Asati, MVP Festus Shiasi, Elvis Olukusi, and Austin Sikutwa for the tournament.

However, Sevens coach Andrew Amonde believes there is sufficient depth to win the event in Eldoret.

“We have a big squad to win and the momentum in winning the Christie Sevens will help us as we seek to win the overall circuit" observed Amonde.

Amonde will rely on the likes of Brian Wahinya, Levi Amunga, Jacob Ojee, Elvis Odunga, and Isaac Njoroge among others. The bankers are in Pool 'A' alongside Blak Blad, Homeboyz, and Mombasa Sports Club.

Strathmore Leos will be aiming to go one place better after finishing second in the Christie Sevens three weeks ago.

The varsity side are expected to be at full strength with only George  'Japolo' Ooro missing due to national team commitments.

Winger Victor'Mola' Odhiambo, who missed the defeat to KCB in the Christie Sevens final, is expected to be fit for the two-day tournament

Louis Kisia's charges face inconsistent Menengai Oilers, Catholic Monks and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Pool B.

Kabras who lead the standings by two points from KCB entertain Quins, Daystar Falcons and Kisumu RFC in Pool 'C'.

Tactician Felix Ayange will have to juggle his squad for the two-day tournament as he is without stars Brian Tanga, Kevin Wekesa, Jone Kubu, William Muhanji and Lamech Ambetsa.

Nakuru, who had their best tournament at the Christie Sevens, headline Pool 'D' and have a date with Mwamba, Nondies, and hosts the University of Eldoret Trojans.
