Fresh from winning the Kitaka 10-a-side tournament in Uganda, Nondies have set their sights on a top-six finish in the upcoming Kenya Cup season which kicks off next month.

The win in Uganda comes hot on the heels of Nondies winning the Tisap Sevens last month.

Nondies coach Oliver Callum said the victory in the two tournaments is a big morale booster ahead of the 15's season.

“I am delighted with the boys winning the Sevens in Eldoret and Kitaka tourney in Uganda. This has given the boys massive confidence going into the start of the season,” he said

The Ngong Road outfit beat Uganda Sevens champions Black Pirates 7-0 in the final last weekend and went unbeaten in the entire tournament.

Callum's charges had defeated Rams 10-0 in the quarters before seeing off the challenge of Rhinos 22-0 in the semifinals.

In the preliminaries, the side also known as the  Rangers beat Sailors Rugby 43-5,  Jinja Hippos 28-0, and won 38-0 over Buffaloes.

The tactician said they were looking forward to the Impala Floodlit tournament starting in mid-October as part of the preparation phase for the Kenya Cup season.

"Last season, we finished second to KCB but having started our pre-season late,  the tournament has come early for us and we will be fine-tuning our tactics to see how we can improve and gel as a team before the season starts,” said Callum.

Callum expressed delight with fullback Tony Fidens being called up to the Kenya Sevens training squad.

“It shows as a club we are headed in the right direction and for Fidens to get selected it means we are doing something right. A couple of our players are also on the radar of the selectors so I am happy with the progress we have made this year,” he said.

Cullum said he wants the side to be competitive and consistent in the Kenya Cup.

"We do not want a situation where we have been promoted and then get relegated come the end of the season. We need to stay up there with the big boys and finish favourably in the Kenya Cup," added Callum.

He added that the bulk of the side that did duty in the championship last season has remained intact.

“The core of the team that played last year is still intact and once the transfer window opens in December, we will look at players we can sign to bolster our squad,” noted Callum.
