After braving through a hard-fought 25-23 Impala Floodlit final against Nondies, KCB have now set their sights on reclaiming the Kenya Cup title.

The bankers beat the White Shirts in extra time to leave assistant coach Andrew Amonde astounded.

“This is one of the toughest finals we have been to as a team and I am proud of the boys for their exemplary performance," said Amonde.

"They showed up when we needed them the most and we are happy the trophy stays with us again. Our focus now shifts to the Kenya Cup, which will kick off on November 25.”

The bankers are now the most successful team in the history of the Impala Floodlit tournament 10 titles, surpassing Mean Machine who have nine.

Amonde believes the win will inspire his players in their quest to reclaim the Kenya Cup title.

“We have come up short in the past two years but with a youthful and hungry squad, motivated by winning the Floodlit tournament, we want to go all the way once  the league,” added Amonde

The bankers drew first blood courtesy of Peter Kilonzo's try with Darwin Mukidza converting for a 7-0 lead.

Nondies, keen to avenge last year’s loss to the same opponents, replied with two penalties from Calvin Sheunda to trail 6-7 at the interval.

On resumption, Mukidza extended the bankers' lead with a penalty only for Sheunda to bring Nondies within a point at 10-9.

The former Kenya Simbas international then added two penalties to widen the lead to 16-9.

Nondies regrouped and piled on the pressure and their efforts bore fruit when Moseti Nyaena with Sheunda combined to send the game into extra time.

Mukidza continued with his heroics, slotting home three penalties to give the bankers a nine-point cushion at 25-16. Nondies skipper Charles Odhiambo scored a late consolation try for Nondies with Sheunda converting.

In the individual awards category, KCB’s Festus Shiasi scooped the Most Valuable Player award as Kilonzo emerged as the top try scorer in the tournament. Mukidza’s superb kicking skills earned him the top point scorer award.
