Blak Blad coach Bernard Rotich insists that his side to improve their away form if they are to qualify for the Kenya Cup playoffs at the end of the season.

The varsity side finished fifth on the log with 32 points last year— five behind eventual semifinalists Menengai Oilers and Quins.

Rotich believes wins on the road will see them break into the top six come the end of the season.

"Our home record is quite impressive. It's only our away form that worries me.  I believe this year we have learned our lessons and we can improve in that regard," he noted.

Their sole win on the road came at Homeboyz, where they beat the Deejays 36-24 in a high-scoring encounter.

The tactician said they have worked on their attack and backline play which hurt their chances of a playoff spot last season.

“ Our play in the back was average. We have worked on it during the pre-season and we hope to be sharp when we get to the opposition's 22 and score several tries."

Rotich lauded the efforts of his forwards during the 24-16 victory over Mwamba last weekend and said they have a platform to challenge the likes of champions, Kabras, KCB and Quins come this season.

"Our pack is quite robust with the forwards able to carry the ball and get over the gain line and hope they can replicate the intensity for the duration of the season,” observed Rotich.

Despite losing the services of playmaker Lionel Ajeliti to KCB, Rotich is upbeat about his side's chances of doing well this season.

“ There is sufficient depth in the squad. We are not a one-man team. We have several excellent players in the squad."

Players who left Blak Blad in the last couple of years include Brain Wahinya and Levi Amunga both of whom joined KCB.
