KCB RFC assistant coach Denis Mwanja has said his charges did not play according to their script despite beating Nakuru RFC 20-12 in the Kenya Cup clash over the weekend.

The win saw the bankers extend their winning streak in a match played at the Nakuru Athletics on match day seven.

“Our plan for this match did not go as we had envisioned. We did not fire from all cylinders, and we made a lot of mistakes.  Missing two penalty kicks in the first half and knock-ons that could have been avoided," Mwanja said.

"However, we take the win and prepare for the next assignment.”

The home side took an early advantage, scoring ten minutes into the game before Andy Cole crossed the white line for the Curtis-Olago-led outfit to cut the deficit.

Darwin Mukidza added three points for the bankers just before the halftime whistle through a penalty to give the Ruaraka-based KCB a narrow 8-7 lead at the break.

Despite a difficult first half for Brian Wahinya, the skillful player made up for his adversities by scoring a huge try for KCB in the second half to extend their lead to 13-7 and light up the away stand that was silent for the better part of the first half.

Winger Festus Shiasi, who replaced Peter Kilonzo in the first half crossed the white line for the bankers again before Darwin Mukidza’s successful conversion to bring the scores to 20-7.

Nakuru scored their second try of the game in the dying minutes, but it was not enough to grab a win for the Wanyore side that enjoyed support from their raucous fans.
