Impala head coach Chris Majale wants improvement in the setpiece following three consecutive defeats in the KRU Championship.

The 10-time Kenya Cup champions slipped to fourth on the standings with 23 points following a 26-18 loss to South Coast Pirates over the weekend.

They also fell 29-13 to Daystar Falcons and 27-7 to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) to leave them six points behind leaders Masinde Muliro.

And with two matches of the regular season left, Majale said they can’t afford any more slip-ups.

“We have to go back to the basics in terms of our kickoff reception, line-out and scrum. We are entering a crucial period and we must get back to winning ways to ensure we have a home playoff semi to look forward to,” said Majale.

Impala face Kabarak University and University of Eldoret Trojans (UOE) in their final two games and Majale has rallied his charges to bounce back.

“We will take one game at a time. But there is no margin for error heading into the home straight. We must rediscover our form and momentum as we close out the group phase,” he said.

The coach expects a four-way fight for the two automatic promotion slots for the 2024/25 Kenya Cup next season.

“It’s going to be very close between Masinde Muliro, Daystar, South Coast Pirates and ourselves. Whoever will do the basics right, win territory and commit fewer errors in the big moments at the playoffs will carry the day,” added Majale.

He expects to have centre George Okowa back from injury for the final two games.

“I expect him to be back to bolster our backline which has been shaky and with us not having a match this weekend, the boys will rest and recover and be fired up for the final act,” he said.
