Kabras Sugar's Lamech Ambetsa and Nakuru's Chrisant Ojwang have been called up to the final 12-man Kenya Sevens squad to the Paris Olympics later this month.

The duo made the final cut following their impressive displays in the Challenger Sevens Series in Munich and Madrid last month and also in the training camp at Moi Stadium, Kasarani.

Speaking Wednesday head coach Kevin Wambua said he is happy with the way the team has gelled together during their tenure in camp.

He said each player has shown dedication and commitment, both on and off the field and they are ready to give their best at the Olympics.

"Our preparation has been intense and we have mainly focused on refining our skills and strategies. We are determined to represent the country with pride and we aim to make a significant impact in Paris," he noted.

The tactician exuded confidence in the players' abilities and said he looks forward to competing at the highest level, especially with the kind of support they command.

Co-Captain Vincent Onyala and Herman Humwa are the two survivors from the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020 while former skipper Andrew Amonde, who played in both Tokyo and Rio is the strength and conditioning coach on the technical bench

The Mwamba coach said they are leveraging Onyala and Amonde's experience from the  Tokyo event to prepare the team.

"The two have been speaking to us on what to expect in the Olympics. A good number of our players are inexperienced and it will be a big learning curve for them. The good thing is that they are ready to learn and play the best teams" said Wambua.

Kenyans face World Series champions and Olympic bronze medallists Argentina, Australia and Samoa in Pool B'.

The tactician said they will take one game at a time. "Our mantra throughout the entire season has been one game at a time and we will stick to that for the Olympics," said Wambua.

Shujaa open their campaign against Argentina before taking on Australia in their second match. They close out the preliminaries with a match against Samoa. The team departs Monday for a ten-day training camp in Miramas before heading to Paris on July 19.
