Menengai Oilers will welcome back three key players ahead of this weekend's Dala Sevens in Kisumu.

Kenya Sevens' John Okoth and Simbas duo of Beldad Ogeta and Abutwalib Wesonga are expected back to beef up the side for the tournament.

The Nakuru outfit has had an underwhelming start to the Sevens Series with quarterfinal defeats in their two opening tournaments.

They lost to Quins 12-0 in the Christie Sevens and 8-5 in sudden death to rivals Nakuru at the Kakamega Sevens. Weru's charges lie seventh on the log with 22 points—19 behind log leaders Quins.

Speaking recently, coach Gibson Weru expressed confidence in an upturn in results,  especially, with the arrival of his star players for the remainder of the circuit.

"We had eight new faces and getting up to speed has taken time. However, the return of experienced players like Ogeta and Okoth will calm them down and bring experience to the squad. I hope to go deep into the tournament starting with Dala Sevens in Kisumu,” said Weru.

Ogeta played for the Kenya Simbas in the Africa Cup in Uganda last month and Weru was confident of his impact, especially in the shorter version of the game.

"Ogeta was training us before he joined the Simbas. He is one of the players who are superb with the ball in hand and in a Sevens environment,  where there is so much space, he can be a big asset for us,” observed Weru.

The former Kenya Sevens playmaker said they have to improve their discipline and avoid giving away penalties.

"It's something we have to work on. Our defence has to be better and be on the right side of the referee."

In training this week Weru said they have worked on the attack which stagnated in the last tournament.

“It's something we have to work on. Our defence has to be better and be on the right side of the referee."

“ We are not sharp on the attack as we ought to be. The players need to be patient with the ball and the tries will eventually come."

Weru expects a competitive Sevens campaign, especially with the return of Shujaa players to their various clubs.

“ I believe the fans are in for a treat for the remaining four tournaments of the series. It promises to be very exciting with all the clubs getting their top players back."
