The race for the national Seven series intensifies this weekend with the Dala Sevens in Kisumu.

Only two points separate leaders Quins (41 points) and Kabras after two rounds with defending champions KCB third, nine points adrift.

It promises to be two days of fireworks, especially with Kenya Sevens players rejoining their clubs after competing at the Olympics and having undergone the mandatory 10-day rest.

Fresh from winning the Kakamega Sevens, Quins have a Herculean task in Pool 'A' where they face Menengai Oilers, Strathmore Leos and Mwamba in, arguably, the pool of death.

Assistant coach Simon Odongo believes his charges are ready for the battle but has asked the players not to underestimate their opponents.

"It's a tough pool but we have the momentum and synergy from winning in Kakamega. Every side will want to beat us. We must stay ahead of the chasing pack to go deep in this tournament and even win it,” said Odongo.

Odongo will bank on the likes of inform play-makers Lucky Dewald and Amon Wamalwa, Jan Remke and Leon Nyang alongside the experienced Herman Humwa.

Oilers welcome Kenya Sevens international John Okoth and his Simbas counterpart Abutwalib Wesonga back in their ranks as they aim to bounce back after underwhelming performances in the Christie and Kakamega Sevens.

They failed to go past the quaterfinal stage on both ocassions.

KCB are the frontrunners in Pool 'B', up against Nondies, Blak Blad and Homeboyz

The bankers' coach Dennis Mwanja wants his charges to bounce back from the disappointing final defeat to Quins in Kakamega a fortnight ago.

“It was a tough loss for us to take. We had chances to close out the game but missed. We now get another opportunity to correct our errors,” said Mwanja.

The bankers have added firepower with the likes of Shujaa playmaker Samuel Asati and Festus Shiasi recalled for the tournament.

Kabras headline Pool 'C' where they face neighbours Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), hosts Kisumu and Kabete Stallions.

The sugar millers welcome back experienced Brian Tanga, Derrick Ashiundu and Alfred Orege as they look at winning the tournament

Nakuru will be looking to build on their fourth-place finish in Kakamega when they take on Catholic Monks, Daystar Falcons and Zetech Oaks in Pool 'D'.

The top two teams from each pool qualify for the main cup quarterfinals while the teams placed third and fourth drop to the classification matches on Sunday.

After Kisumu, the series will head to Nairobi for the Kabeberi Sevens next weekend.
