KCB have trained their sights on the Kabeberi Sevens title this weekend after falling short at the Dala Sevens last weekend.

The bankers were fifth in Kisumu after seeing off Ngong-Road-based side Nondescripts 31-0 in a classification match at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Mamboleo.

KCB Sevens' assistant coach Andrew Amonde described their performance in Kisumu as disappointing but believes his charges will retain the overall crown.

"We did not defend our title in Dala but big lessons for the boys. It is a matter of respecting your opponents and showing up to their strengths. Vincent Onyala will be with us once we go back to Nairobi. He will bring a different environment. We will keep building in the remaining legs; the margins are not that bad,” said Amonde.

They lost 5-12 to Kenya Harlequins in the main cup quarterfinal and thumped Nakuru RFC 29-10 in the fifth playoff semi-final clash.

The bankers have blown hot and cold in the circuit, falling to Kabras in the Christie Sevens quarterfinals last month.

The Thika Road side displayed good form by reaching the Kakamega Sevens final but imploded, throwing a 12-0 lead to lose 17-12 to Quins in sudden death.

Amonde, a former Kenya Sevens skipper, wants to improve their attack and defence before the weekend contest.

"We need to do a lot of work as we progress in the tournament. Our defence and attacking firepower are still lacking. It's an area we must improve before the next fixtures in Nairobi. Mathematically, we can still win the overall crown. That remains our greatest target,” added Amonde.

Olympians Samuel Asati, Vincent Onyala and Festus Shiasi are expected to surpass their offering at Dala 7s by injecting pace and experience into the squad.

The series will then move to Mombasa for the Driftwood 7s on September 7-8 while the final leg, Prinsloo Sevens, is set for Nakuru Athletic Club on September 14-15.
