Kabras Rugby Sevens coach Felix Ayange has urged his charges to be wary of complacency as the national Sevens circuit enters the home straight.

The Kakamega-based were sixth at the Kabeberi Sevens after failing to fire on all cylinders in an error-strewn tournament.

They are second on the log with 73 points and the tactician said his young players cannot underestimate the opposition with two rounds to go in Mombasa and Nakuru.

“It’s a young side who became too casual after winning Dala Sevens. They must tread carefully. We cannot get carried away by winning one tournament. We must show the same hunger and desire in subsequent tournaments,” said Ayange.

Kabras' campaign began with a shock 22-17 defeat to Strathmore Leos but bounced back with a 31-7 demolition of Impala before registering a 22-12 win over Nakuru to sail to the quarterfinals.

They lost 19-12 to Menengai Oilers to drop to the classification matches where they thrashed neighbours Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology 33-0.

In the fifth-place final, Kabras were for the second time outwitted by Strathmore, losing down 14-12.

Ayange, a former Kenya Sevens international, believes they have to work on their accuracy in attack before making the long trip to Mombasa.

“We created several chances, especially in the knockout rounds, but we were not patient enough to utilise them. We have three training sessions to correct that before we embark on the trip to the coast,” said Ayange.

They will take one tournament at a time with pressure mounting on the two other contenders Quins (76 points) and KCB (67).

“It’s going to be very competitive. We will take one match at a time and see where we end up. I believe the boys can cope with the pressure as we head into the final stretch,” noted Ayange.

The tactician is uncertain whether Kenya Sevens playmaker Brian Tanga will play in Mombasa.

“We will see by early next week if he will be available. We know what he brings to the team,” he concluded.
