The battle for the National Sevens Circuit title hots up this weekend with the penultimate leg of the series, the Driftwood Sevens, in Mombasa.

It's a three-horse race for the coveted crown with Quins top of the standings with 75 points, two ahead of Kabras while defending champions, KCB, are third with 67 points.

Fourth-placed Menengai Oilers — 60 points — are mathematically in contention but will need to gather maximum points in the Mombasa and Nakuru tournaments and hope the leading trio falters.

Fresh from winning the Kabeberi Sevens title a fortnight ago, on form KCB target a fourth Driftwood crown after 2012, 2013 and, 2019.

Coach Dennis Mwanja wants his charges to be ruthless from the first whistle of a potentially title-defining weekend.

"This is going to be interesting," said Mwanja.

"We are coming off a win and we want to continue with our good form. There are certain areas I want the team to improve and am confident we will put on a good show.”

 Mwanja will bank on Kenya Sevens stalwart Samuel Asati, Elvis Olukusi, Levy Amunga, Floyd Wabwire, Emmanuel Opondo and Davis Nyaundi.

The bankers face hosts Mombasa Sports Club in their Pool 'A' opener before matches against Blak Blad and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

Coach Gibson Weru believes his charges have learnt their lessons.

"Our biggest undoing has been slow starts. It's one area we have worked on in training and the boys are in good shape. Hopefully, we can go deep into the tournament," said Weru.

Quins face an acid test in arguably the group of death where they meet Kabras, Nakuru and Mwamba.

The Ngong Road side have reached the semifinals of every leg and will fancy their chances of winning a second tournament after Kakamega Sevens.

They are the most successful side in the history of Driftwood Sevens with 12 wins.
