Kenya Harlequins are the new National Sevens Circuit champions after clinching fifth place at the Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru on Sunday.
The Ngong Road giants beat Nakuru RFC 35-7 to bag the required 13 points to finish top of the standings with 110 points.
Their closest challengers Kabras' hopes of catching Quins were dented when they lost in the Main Cup semifinals 15-5 to a resilient Nondies outfit to all but end their hopes of winning the title
Paul Murunga's charges had lost 15-12 to Nondies in the Main Cup quarters but bounced back to beat Blak Blad 24-5 in the fifth-place semifinal before posting a superb performance in the final to win the crown that has eluded them for the last 12 years.
Kabras took second position overall with 105 points with KCB third on 93. Menengai Oilers were fourth with 83 points.
Murunga was full of praise for his charges. “The boys coped with the pressure even when we lost to Nondies in the Main Cup quarters. We kept our composure and fortitude to carry the day. We have been the most consistent side in the circuit this season and the boys have executed the plan very well."
The side will take a break before resuming for the start of the Kenya Cup season in November and prepare for the pre-season Impala Floodlit tournament next month.
“We will enjoy the win and regroup to start our preparation for the 15's season, where we want to make a mark in the longer version of the game.
