Tennis Kenya executive officer Nancy Nduku says Raymond Oduor and Brandon Sagala will be fast-tracked to the Kenya Davis Cup Team for next year's tournament.

Oduor was part of the youth development to the Kikuzi Open in Luanda, where he bowed out in the Round of 16 alongside Ibrahim Kibet.

Speaking Wednesday, Nduku said they were keen to tweak the national side and give young players a pathway to the national team just as they have done with the girls in the past couple of years.

“If you look at our Fed Cup team, the girls have gone through the various age groups. The same should happen to the boys," observed Nduku.

The duo has been earmarked for the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, Senegal, with an eye on the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

"I believe the pathway we have created is quite comprehensive. It provides an opportunity to play at the highest level,” added Nduku.

She cited a player like Ishmael Changawa who has been with the Davis Cup for the last eight years.

"It's about time we start grooming some of the younger players to take his (Changawa's) position for the upcoming international tournaments," said Nduku.

Meanwhile, the team must improve to get promoted to Group Three next year after missing out in 2023 and 2024. Team Kenya beat Cameroon and Botswana 3-0 but lost 2-1 to Ghana and Nigeria.

The team had siblings Kael and Keean Shah, Derrick Ominde, Kibet and Changawa.

Kenya's best performance in the Davis Cup was in 1992 when they played in the Europe/Africa Group 1 semifinals.

Elsewhere, Cynthia Wanjala will seek to build on her performance at the Kikuxi Open in Luanda, Angola, where she lost 6-2 6-0 to Nigeria's Adesuwa Osabuohien in the final.

"I need to improve certain facets of my game to help me win a tournament in the future," she said.
