Keep off Old Athi River Bridge - KeNHA to road users

The Kenya National Highways Authority now wants motorists and pedestrians to keep off the Old Athi River Bridge.

KeNHA Director General Eng. Kungu Ndunguin a notice said the Bridge is almost flooding due to the ongoing rain.

"The approaches of the bridge have been severely damaged and is at risk of collapsing, posing significant hazards to both pedestrians and motorists.

"The authority strongly advises against using this Bridge for safety."

KeNHA has directed all road users to instead use the New Carriageway Bridge adjacent tit the Old Bridge.

"KeNHA appeals to all motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution when navigating through the area," the Authority said.

Earlier, KeNHA warned motorists not to use the Athi River-Machakos road service lane.

The Authority said a section of the embankment slopes has eroded to the heavy rains and is a danger to motorists.

It urged motorists using the road near Green Park estate to exercise caution.

KeNHA, however, said that the main carriage is operational, and motorists should still exercise caution as they use it.

"KeNHA advises motorists plying the Athi River - Machakos Road near Green Park estate to exercise caution. The embankment slopes have eroded, posing risks to the service road.

"The main carriageway remains open, however, due to the tenuous conditions, please refrain from using the service road. Motorists are advised to prioritize safety when using the main carriageway and to proceed with caution," the Authority said on X.
