A boda boda operator has died in an accident along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu Road.

The accident occurred minutes after a lorry heading to Naivasha from Mai Mahiu allegedly hit and killed over 20 goats near Mirera.

A witness Elias Mbuthia said that some people decided to cart away some of the goats that had been run over by the trailer following the midday incident.

He added that the herd of sheep and goats were crossing the busy road from a nearby dam when the lorry reportedly hit them.

“Some motorcycle operators decided to cart away some of the goats and while fleeing one of them was run down by another trailer,” he claimed.

Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui confirmed the incident adding that the body had been collected and taken to the local mortuary and an inquest file opened.

Meanwhile, Naivasha Subcounty Hospital has obtained a court order to dispose of 16 decomposed bodies that have been lying in their mortuary for the last five months.

The unclaimed bodies will be disposed of in a public cemetery.

Under the order issued by Naivasha Principal Magistrate Wilson Rading, the hospital was given the go-ahead to dispose of the bodies.

While allowing the application that had been made by the hospital public health officer Ezekiel Bowen, the magistrate directed that the bodies be buried in Longonot town public cemetery.

“The public health in charge of Naivasha Subcounty Hospital is hereby granted an order to dispose of the 16 unclaimed and badly decomposed bodies in a mass grave,” reads the order.

According to data from the hospital, 14 of the bodies are male and the majority died while undergoing treatment either from road accidents or had been brought in by relatives.
