IPOA announces 15 job vacancies, assures fair recruiting

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has announced 15 job vacancies in various departments under the body.

In an advertisement, IPOA encouraged interested and qualified persons to submit their application through the Post Office, email or by hand delivery.

Applicants should clearly indicate the position and job reference number, on both the cover letter, envelope and email applications.

"...together with IPOA employment form, a detailed CV, copies of academic certificates, national identity card, names and telephone contacts of three referees, so as to reach the Authority by Tuesday, October 17, 2023," part of the advertisement reads.

The advertised positions include that of one Deputy Director, Finance and Planning, three Principal Investigations Officers and three senior drivers.

Other personnel needed are Deputy Director of Legal Services, Senior Assistant Director of Investigations, Senior Investigations Officer and, Senior Internal Audit and Risk Officer.

IPOA also needs a Senior Database and Applications Administrator, a Senior Supply Chain Management Officer and a Customer Care Assistant I.

In addition to the aforementioned requirements, applicants should be result-oriented Kenyan citizens with drive, vision and creativity.

IPOA has assured that it is "an equal opportunity employer", adding that it will not entertain discrimination in its recruitment.

The process, the authority said, will be fair regardless of one's political affiliation, religion, colour, ethnic origin, disability, health, or social status.

"Canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification," it warned.

The Authority noted that it does not engage any recruitment agencies and no medical examination is required before one attends an interview.

Further, it does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process.

"Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted," IPOA said.

The Authority is mandated by the law to hold the police accountable to the public in the performance of their functions, ensure that police strive for professionalism and discipline and shall promote and practice transparency and accountability.

It is also meant to ensure independent oversight of the handling of complaints by the Service.

Among its functions are to receive and investigate complaints by members of the Service, monitor and investigate policing operations affecting the public conduct inspections of Police premises, and co-operate with other institutions on issues of Police oversight.

IPOA also reviews the patterns of Police misconduct and the functioning of the internal disciplinary process and presents any information it deems appropriate to an inquest conducted by a court of law.
