Ex-Murang'a governor Mwangi wa Iria's wife was on Tuesday charged with irregularly awarding contracts for the provision of media buying services amounting to Sh351 million.

Jane Waigwe Kimani was charged alongside David Maina Kiama before Anti-Corruption trial magistrate Victor Wakumile.

She denied the charges.

Jane and Kiama were accused with others already charged, conspired to commit an offence of corruption in respect of an unlawful contract for the provision of media buying services awarded to Top Image Media Consultants Limited by Muranga county government amounting to Sh351 million.

Through their lawyers, the accused asked the court for lenient bond terms.

Jane said she was a victim in the case because of her association with the first accused (Wa Iria) by association of marriage.

She said she was innocent.

Kiama argued that he was a minority in the Top Image Media Consultants as he had already resigned.

However, the Prosecution urged that the court consider the seriousness of the offence as a huge amount of money is involved.

"The allegations that Jane is a victim in the case because of her association with the first accused is not true. She is charged by his capacity as a director of Top Image Consultants Company", the prosecution said.

The DPP further requested the court to give the accused persons conditions that if released, they should not interfere with witnesses and also deposit their passports in court.

The magistrate considered the submissions by both the defence and the prosecution.

The two were released on a cash bail of Sh1 million or a bond of Sh5 million with a surety of a similar amount each.

The court noted that Kiama doesn't have a passport but he should not leave the court's jurisdiction.

The case will be mentioned on May 14.
