University of Nairobi Terrorists hijacked Absa 72-52 in a Kenya national basketball League at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

The varsity lads who suffered a close 61-53 loss to Umoja the previous day, had two strong quarters, taking the second 14-5 and the third 26-15.

“Today we executed better on offence and pulled down some key rebounds. In the loss against Umoja, we lost the physical duel and gave up,” said UoN coach Brian Busu.

“My team had seven first-timers and I thought their contributions to this win were important. We will keep our heads high going into our upcoming matches.”

Jacob Aleu buried 20 points, Chan Diing scored 14 and Kizito Wafula managed 10 for UoN. Absa were led by Denis Ondieki’s 19.

In a women’s match, former champions Equity Bank Hawks flew all over Strathmore University Swords, ripping them 77-32.

Betty Kananu contributed 14 points for the Bankers, who went ahead 37-16 at halftime.

Kananu was good for another 17 points while Rachael Akinyi added 10 in another easy 53-21 pounding of Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Panthers.

On Saturday, unbeaten Nairobi City Thunder used every trick in the book to pip Equity Bank Dumas 73-70 in an explosive tie.

Albert Odero nailed 26 points, Griffin Ligare shot 14 and Ariel Koranga had 12. Dumas had 19 from Victor Bosire and 11 from Davies Siaji.

In Mombasa, champions Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) were stunned 56-50 by United States International University (USIU).

Patrick Otango scored 17 points and Anthony Erick added 14 for the game Tigers. KPA had 14 from Lennox Wanje. KPA women doused USIU 68-46 as Vilma Achieng made 19 points. Grace Irabu had 11 and Belinda Okoth added 10.

Judith Pantaleo recorded 17 points and Divine Irakoze collected 16 for the Flames.
