The President of the Galmudug State, Ahmed Abdi Kariye on Tuesday met the Acting Head of the United Nations Office in Somalia, James Swan, over development of the region.

The meeting followed Swan’s visit to Galmudug state on a working visit, which saw him and his delegation pay a courtesy visit to Kariye.

During the meeting, Kariye and Swan discussed a range of critical issues affecting the region and Somalia as a whole.

They also assessed Somalia’s current security status.

They emphasised the importance of security and the ongoing fight against terrorism. They two noted that these challenges are paramount for ensuring stability and development in Galmudug.

“The meeting discussed the overall situation in the country, including the current situations, security, the fight against terrorism, the constitution, and the country's elections, as well as development projects and the activities that UN agencies are undertaking in the Galmudug,” a statement from Galmudug Presidency said in part.

Kariye and Swan also addressed ongoing development projects in the state, as well as the initiatives being implemented by other UN agencies in the region.

The Galmudug leader expressed gratitude for the support from the United Nations, as reiterated the critical role of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable development goals.

The two further discussed the constitutional framework and the upcoming elections, where they both agreed on the need for a transparent and inclusive electoral process that reflects the will of the people.
