The push to include human resource certification in the public sector appraisals has seen more professionals seek the accreditation.

Over 1500 Candidates are sitting their Certified Human Resource Professionals (CHRP) exams beginning Wednesday 22.

The CHRP certification offered by Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board is gaining traction because it is set to be included in the Career Progression Guidelines for the HR cadre in the Public Service.

Recent changes in law compel all human resource professionals to apply for a practicing certificate after going back to school to attain the necessary knowledge, skills and experience.

The law set up the Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board (HRMPEB) as the examination board for developing professional qualifications dubbed the Certified Human Resource Professional achieved in three levels.

HR professionals are categorised into associates — those that are just starting—and members — those that have five years of experience and above.

The Board has made strides during this exam sitting with the introduction of a new ERP System and private candidature.

“This is our first examinations that students have booked exams on their own. The new student portal has enabled all students to access services which include: student registration, exam booking, exemption applications, fee payments, examination results, certification among other essential services” CEO CHRP Nicholas Kanisa.

Further the CEO Stated that the Student digital transformation project at the Human Resource Management Professional Examinations Board (HRMPEB) is particularly timely, given the Board's quest to achieve the Government agenda of digitizing processes.

While acknowledging that learning can occur outside of the confines of a formal classroom setting, the body notes that the first cohort of private candidates has registered and been examined as part of the ongoing CHRP November 2023 examination series, as has the continuation of institutionally based candidates.

In addition, the Board deployed and commissioned a New ERP System with the examinations module taking the center stage.

The candidates sitting the ongoing CHRP Examinations are the first cohort to experience the digitization of HRMPEB Services by the Board.

The CHRP nationwide exams are set to run for 7 days from 23rd to 29th November 2023 in centers across the country.

In January 2023 data from the IHRM, estimated that only 17,000 of the over 30,000 HR professionals operating in the country were certified to practice the trade.
