At least 200 young entrepreneurs participating in the Jiinue Growth Program (JGP) attended specialized business training during the first day of the Eldoret Business Summit 2024.
The two-day summit, themed "Unlocking Business Opportunities in Kenya's New City," also provided these participants with exhibition booths to showcase their products.
The summit was officially opened by Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and brought together key stakeholders including business leaders, investors, industry experts, and policymakers.
Organized by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Uasin Gishu Chapter, the event aims to drive economic development and innovation in the region.
As Uasin Gishu County Government we are committed to support the young people through innovation hubs, agribusiness and incubation centers which will also serve as centers of excellence.” Governor Bii said.
Through the Jiinue Growth Program, a collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, participants received training designed to bridge the funding gap for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Kenya.
The program combines financial support with technical assistance and a coordinated approach among various players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.
The Jiinue Growth Program, led by Grassroots Business Fund (GBF) and involving organizations like GROOTS, Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), 4G Capital, and Powered by People (PBP), seeks to address challenges facing MSMEs by utilizing non-traditional channels to foster sustainable growth for businesses owned by young entrepreneurs aged 18-35.
Governor Bii highlighted the importance of supporting young entrepreneurs, stating, "Eldoret is the home of champions, and we want business champions as well.
The Uasin Gishu County Government is committed to supporting young people through innovation hubs, agribusiness, and incubation centers."
Jiinue Growth Program Project Manager Esther Kimani encouraged participants to engage proactively in the five-year program to access affordable working capital and technical assistance.
As Eldoret transitions to city status, the summit aims to position it as a regional business hub, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation while contributing to economic growth.
