ICPAK officials conduct a raid and arrest a suspect for masquerading as an accountant in Embu

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) carried out a raid on an illegal accounting firm in Embu town, Embu County, following a tip from the public.

The raid is part of the ongoing efforts by ICPAK to address concerns about professional ethics and regulatory compliance.

"The Institute has a regulatory role in granting practicing certificates to members who intend to practice and register and licenses all accountancy firms in Kenya," read a statement from ICPAK

According to the Accountants Act, which establishes the Institute, in section 18, no person is allowed to practice as an accountant unless they hold a practicing certificate and a valid license. Violation of this law is considered an offense.

After the raid, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations apprehended the suspect in Embu West Sub-county.

Officers from ICPAK had posed as clients before arresting the proprietor of Ndienjam Business Consultants, Mr. Nicasio Njiru Njue.

After the raid, the Director of Regulation, Licensing, and Compliance at ICPAK CPA Benjamin Mbolonzi, urged the public to verify with the Institute whether an accountant is licensed before engaging in their services.

The authorities seized documents, computers, and other records during the operation. The alleged misconduct involves practicing without a valid license.

ICPAK has assured the public that it is dedicated to upholding the integrity of the profession and has promised to provide updates on important developments as the investigation progresses.
