AI phones with 5G capability have been on an increase in Kenya, with subscriptions growing from 509,737 users to 586,684 users by second quarter of the financial year 2023- 2024.
Communications Authority says this growth is in alignment with forecasted numbers regarding 5G adoption in the country. The increase reflects Kenyan telco’s efforts to expand 5G coverage, making 5G bundles and devices – both smartphones and routers affordable. Irungu says that Vivo’s standout AI features is scene recognition, which automatically identifies and adjusts settings for various scenes like landscapes, food, night shots, and portraits.
“Another unique addition is the AI Sky Editor, which can intelligently replace the sky in an image, adding different moods and weather effects to enhance the overall aesthetic. This feature is especially popular among users seeking visually appealing content for social media,” added Irungu.
