Two Rivers International Finance and Innovation Centre has signed a partnership agreement with Distributed Power Africa-Kenya that will more than double Two Rivers Power Company’s solar power production from 1.2 megawatts to 3.2MW.

The technical and financial partnership will make the Two Rivers Power Company the largest rooftop solar power installation for residential and commercial use in the East Africa region.

Two Rivers Power Company is an affiliate of TRIFIC SEZ and Centum Real Estate Limited (Centum Re), which are subsidiaries of the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) listed Centum Investment Company.

The power firm was founded to supply energy to the Two Rivers shopping, office, and residential complex in Nairobi.

“This development enhances Centum Re’s green credentials as a large-scale real estate developer and ensures clean, reliable power supply for Two Rivers residents,” said Kenneth Mbae, the Centum Re Managing Director.

Energy infrastructure is a key component of Centum Re’s mixed-use developments as well as TRIFIC’s commitment to installing clean, affordable, and reliable power supply at the TRIFIC Special Economic Zone.

Kenya is endowed with a year-long supply of ample sunshine that makes it easy to operate both small-scale and large-scale solar power systems within the country.

“This is an important value addition for businesses setting up within the TRIFIC special economic zone as it lowers the cost of power and reduces the carbon footprint, which is becoming an imperative for businesses as the world looks to operate more sustainably,” said Brenda Mbathi, the TRIFIC CEO.

The Two Rivers Power Company holds a power generation and distribution license and operates a high-voltage line from Ruaraka to its substation at the Two Rivers Mall.

The electricity from the substation is complemented by a 1.2MW solar power plant located at the parking area of the mall. This is now set to increase to 3MW.

Distributed Power Africa-Kenya (DPA-K) is a subsidiary of EDF, a leading Global Energy Company. DPA-K is a renewable energy solutions company dedicated to accelerating the transition of businesses and industries to affordable and efficient clean energy without incurring upfront costs and removing technical and operation risks.

“Harnessing the Africa sun and space creates the greatest opportunity for the continent’s energy transition: Roof tops and empty grounds now become a powerhouse, enabling you to begin saving, securing your energy supply at a predictable price and focusing on your core business. Imagine every space in your premises generating your own power,” said Anthony Mburu, the Distributed Power Africa-Kenya CEO.
