Women leaders in Kitui will get tips about getting into positions of power through an e-learning system rolled out in the county.
The Kitui county government partnered with Women Empowerment Link to set up the programme.
A weekend-long induction session for Kitui Women MCAs was held at the weekend to build their skills in political leadership and financial management.
The programme will also increase the numbers of women in political leadership.
At the end of the induction on Sunday, the chair of the women MCAs caucus Mwende Mumo said the platform will give them skills and confidence to run for political seats.
“We are delighted by the programme because it is meant to make women MCAs more focused on leadership and more vibrant during debates in the assembly as well as coming up with bills and motions,” Mumo said.
She hailed the e-learning programme as a vehicle that will push nominated female MCAs to successfully gun for election.
The county assembly legislator noted that the female MCAs caucus is visiting wards to listen to the woes facing women and the girls.
She said gender-based violence and teenage pregnancies were of great concern among women leaders in Kitui county.
Men were also being brought in to find solutions due to their pivotal role in society, she said.
Jullie Ngoiri from Women Empowerment Link said that the e-learning course has several modules that are meant to build the capacity of women leaders.
She said it is being delivered by experts in various fields.
“The e-learning course is a means to allow women leaders to access knowledge and information around issues that are central to their leadership and better themselves,” she said.
Part of the courses will help the MCAs to prepare gender-responsive budgets in the assembly, she noted.
County executive for Gender, Youth and Women Affairs Hellena Ken graced the induction session.
She urged the women to claim their rightful position in leadership.
