Several people were injured after chaos rocked an ODM meeting in Kanduyi, Bungoma county, on Monday.
The party's National Elections Board had convened the meeting under county chairman Ali Balala to harmonise a list of officials from eight wards in Kanduyi constituency.
But it was postponed after supporters of two warring factions sharply differed. They engaged in fistfights, exchanging kicks and blows.
Supporters allied to two contestants for the constituency chairmanship fought each other.
The party's Kanduyi constituency chairman is Joseph Maguda, who is also the Bungoma Township MCA. He is seeking to retain his chairmanship amid opposition from rival Raphael Wanyama.
Maguda blamed Balala for trying to force some members into the party through the back door.
"He was forcing a certain list into the members, we hadn't agreed yet, that is what brought the contention," the MCA said.
Wanyama said the party primaries were held on October 25 and that he was duly elected and the results were received at the party headquarters.
"There was nothing like elections today, we were just harmonising the list but our friends started causing chaos which rocked the function," Wanyama said.
Balala said he had received instructions from deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya and the National Elections Board to carry on with the exercise.
"It is unfortunate the process did not proceed after the two factions differed, their supporters caused chaos hence stopping the whole exercise, the head office will intervene to save the face of the party," Balala said.
