Vihiga Deputy Governor Patrick Saisi has quit ODM to join The Equitable Party of Kenya two days before the party hopping deadline.
Saisi said the outfit is not a briefcase party, saying the registration process started in 2019.
“Registering a party is not a walk in the park and for a national party you must at least have offices in about 24 counties across the country,” Saisi said.
Saisi, who has declared an interest to vie for Vihiga governor, said the party has a vision and not to make money as people think.
He said ODM is still active in Vihiga county, adding that he did not plan to to quit the party because it has contributed much to his political career.
“But when you find you are in a party that does not want you to attend their meetings, that is a clear indicator that you should be leaving,” Saisi said.
“My exit has no effect because I am a small fish there. The governor is still there and he is the big man with all the county resources so that will not affect the party.
“What will be taking place in ODM won’t be my business anymore. I will focus on The Equitable Party which is my new home but I will support Raila Odinga’s presidential bid."
He urged those who have been oppressed in ODM in Vihiga county to join his outfit to achieve their political dreams.
Saisi is set to launch his gubernatorial campaign soon.
"Those who are saying I am going to deputise former governor Moses Akaranga are misled. I am heading to the ballot and I have all the capacity to transform the county," he said.
