Third best pupil puts little known Murang'a school in the limelight

Headteacher Muriithi Thiaka could not hide his joy and said the school’s performance has been on the rise

Parents and teachers from Emanuel Primary school celebrate with Sharon Wairimu who emerged second best in the 2021 KCPE countrywide.

Little known Emanuel Primary School from Kangari subcounty,  has shot into the limelight after emerging as one of the top performing schools in Murang’a.

The school produced the third best candidate countrywide, Sharon Wairimu Muteti who scored 426 marks in the 2021 KCPE exam.

With a total of 117 candidates, the school had 60 pupils score over 400 marks, attaining a mean score of 400.52 marks. The last student had 353 marks.

This is a major improvement from last year where only 14 students managed to score over 400 marks.

Wairimu said she hopes to join Alliance Girls High School and aspires to become a lawyer after she completes her education.

Her mother Sarah Watiri praised her as a hardworking pupil who is disciplined and placed her studies above everything else.

Headteacher Muriithi Thiaka could not hide his joy and said the school’s performance has been on the rise.

Thiaka said this is despite the challenges they faced as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic that constrained learning time.

St Paul, Thomas Academy also managed to get a mean score of 385 marks, with the top student scoring 423 marks.

Headteacher John Gichengo said this is a major improvement from the mean score of 374 that the school scored last year.

“We had 24 pupils score over 400 marks. This is our best performance yet,” he said.

Technology Primary School had 119 candidates and 15 of them scored over 400 marks.

The first pupil was Lameck Muturi with 411 marks while the second pupil was a girl with 406 marks.

Headteacher Wangari Wachira said it was an extremely difficult year as both teachers and pupils had to cover two-years’ work within a year.

“Both teachers and pupils worked very hard to get this performance. Parents also accorded us major support,” she said.

Wachira said the school had seven pupils with over 400 marks last year.

Edinburgh Academy had 32 candidates with a mean score of 375.69.

Six students scored over 400 marks.

Vidhu Ramji Primary School had 183 candidates and had 11 students with over 400 marks while the best had 420.

St James Cathedral Primary had 75 candidates who managed to get a mean score of 366.28 led by Felix Maina with 414 marks and Tessy Wanjiku 409 marks.
