A group of Muslim and Somali leaders on Wednesday endorsed Azimio Nairobi Governor candidate Polycarp Igathe for the City's top job.
Igathe had met with 4,000 Muslim faithful in Nairobi to seek their support.
The leaders asked Igathe to carry out peaceful campaigns and treat residents with respect regardless of their religious background.
"Lazima tutakuwa ndani ya uongozi ya Azimo..HIi jamii haiitaji kitu kwako. Inahitaji tu heshima (We must be in the administration of Azimio..This community does not need a thing from you. It only needs respect)," the group said.
The elders added that since Azimio's boss Raila Odinga has endorsed Igathe, they will also back him.
"I want to tell you, fathers and mothers, on August 9, we will have Igathe as our leader."
Igathe was accompanied by his running mate Philip Kaloki, the ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna and former Nairobi Woman Rep Rachel Shebesh.
Also present were Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan and a host of MCAs.
Igathe is contesting for the governor seat against his closest competitor Senator Johnson Sakaja of the UDA party.
