Vihiga county assembly speaker Hasna Mudeizi says she will defend her seat when new MCAs are sworn in.

However chances of Mudeizi retaining the seat are slim as the Azimio team enjoys majority of the elected MCAs than their rival Kenya Kwanza.

Mudeizi was elected on ANC party  back in 2017. The party is part of the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Azimio has 12 elected MCAs while Kenya Kwanza has seven. Azimio is fronting Castro Lubanga and Winnie Majani.

“The speaker position will be based on how one will lobby. As for me, I'm basing it on my track record in the last Assembly and how that can give me an upper hand,” Mudeizi said.

Candidates eyeing the Speaker position in Vihiga county assembly are currently lobbying to ensure they secure the slot.

Lubanga contested for Hamisi parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket but lost to the incumbent MP Charles Gimose of ANC. Winnie Majani also contested for Vihiga county women representative on ODM ticket and lost to Beatrice Adagala of ANC.

Some elected MCAs confirmed that lobbying is on course.

“I have heard lobbying is going on but I haven’t met any so far,” Patrick Akwale MCA Wemilabi said.

His sentiments were echoed by Zakayo Manyasa of Mwibona ward.

Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo who retained his seat and Vihiga county senator-elect Godfrey Osotsi both of ODM are said to be fronting either Lubanga or Majani.

Ottichilo and Osotsi want an ODM candidate as the Vihiga county speaker’s position for smooth operation of the county assembly.

Osotsi on Monday said they want the speaker’s position to go to an ODM candidate and also someone from Hamisi for equal balance of key Vihiga county positions.

“We are fronting an ODM candidate for Vihiga county assembly speaker’s position for us to get a good hold of the assembly for smooth operation. We are also fronting a candidate from Hamisi to ensure our people from Hamisi are well accommodated in the key positions of the county,” Osotsi said.

It is said Bunyore community has the position of governor and senator through  Ottichilo and Osotsi  respectively while Maragoli community have deputy governor Wilberforce Kitiezo and Vihiga county secretary Ezekiel Ayego leaving Tiriki community with nothing.

To accommodate the Tiriki community, the position of county assembly should be preserved for them.
