Police are investigating an incident in which a nine-month pregnant woman allegedly jumped off the first floor of an apartment as she ran away from a fight with her husband in Ruaraka, Nairobi.

The husband, a police officer, told officers he had a domestic disagreement with the woman when she decided to jump off the first floor on Tuesday morning to escape from him.

The woman,25, sustained multiple injuries on the legs, hands and back and was admitted to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

Police visited the scene of the incident and interrogated neighbours and witnesses as part of the probe.

The woman was still in hospital on Wednesday even though the police intend to talk to her.

The officers will however wait for her to stabilise to get her statement.

Nairobi police boss James Mugera promised a thorough probe into the incident.

Elsewhere, a 42-year-old man was Tuesday arrested as he tried to escape after he had hacked and wounded his wife and brother-in-law in a domestic fight in Ruiru.

The three were arguing over custody of a seven-year-old girl who was supposed to go to school.

Police said Godfrey Mwoki was arrested over claims he used a panga to attack his wife Fransisca Mwihaki and John Wambua.

The two sustained deep panga cuts in the head and hands in the scuffle before the man escaped.

The two had gone to the man’s house to discuss how his daughter would continue with school.

The couple had separated.

It was during the meeting that the man reached out for his panga and attacked the two before escaping as they fought back.

Kiambu head of DCI Richard Mwaura said they will charge the man with, among others, causing bodily harm to the two.

Cases of domestic violence have been on the rise in homes.

Police say they receive at least four cases daily and have been mediating some of them.
